NEW MELLE, Mo. – As temperatures have been rising, there is a heightened risk of going out on ponds and lakes.

The New Melle Fire Protection District gave this reminder Tuesday as they posted a video of a dog being rescued from a pond.

The dog walked onto the water off of South Point Prairie Road when the ice broke underneath, trapping the animal.

According to the post, the owner knew that if she went out to rescue the dog herself, she would get trapped too.

The crew used their equipment and training to complete the successful rescue.
