ST. ANN, Mo. – Curtis Wilson, 54, was joined by his attorney on Tuesday as they spoke about a recent accusation that led to his arrest.
Wilson was accused of following an elementary student and taking photos of her near Buder Elementary School last month.
“I just want to clear my name, and this means everything in the world to me,” he said.
The accusation did not lead to any criminal charges related to stalking. Wilson said he turned his phone over to police to be examined, as he was taking photos of the school for a documentary. He questions his arrest.
Wilson does face charges accusing him of violating conditions of being a registered sex offender. One of those conditions relates to staying at least 500 feet away from schools.
In the 1980s, Wilson was 17 and had sex with a minor, he said. This led to his name being added to the list of registered sex offenders.
“This happened 38 years ago,” he said. “I’ve been walking on eggshells for 38 years.”
Denisha Johnson is the parent who contacted police. She said her daughter believed she was being followed and photographed.
“For her to be spooked like that, it took a lot,” she said.
When her daughter was visibly upset, Johnson called police.
“I had to take it serious,” she said.
St. Ann Police stand by their investigation.
“Here in the city of St. Ann, we do take any kind of investigations involving our children very seriously,” Detective Lt. Monica Ruelas said.
