Woman injured in officer-involved shooting on I-70

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A woman was left injured early Tuesday morning after a shooting on Interstate 70, involving a police officer.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department, the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on eastbound I-70 in Earth City, near the the Blanchette Bridge.

The incident started after police received a call for a suicidal woman who had a gun. At some point, police say the woman pointed a gun at one of the responding officers, prompting the officer to fire his weapon and grazing the woman.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment after the shooting, suffering from non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. No officers were injured during the shooting.

Eastbound I-70 was shut down for an extended period of time after the shooting, police said. The highway has since been reopened.
