ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis woman has been charged with a road rage shooting in a north city neighborhood.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the shooting happened on June 17 in the 2400 block of Kingshighway Boulevard, located in the Kingsway West neighborhood.

Police said an officer was driving north on Kingshighway at Highland Avenue when she heard a crash ahead of her. The officer saw a black GMC Sierra truck being chased by a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the southbound lanes on Kingshighway.

The officer heard approximately seven shots fired and reported the incident to dispatchers, who had also received a ShotSpotter alert for a shooting at that location.

The driver of the Sierra truck told police she was sideswiped by the Cherokee. She drove away in fear of her safety, but the driver of the Cherokee pursued her and began shooting at her, damaging her truck’s back glass and windshield.

Police later found seven 9mm casings in the street.

Investigators used the Real Time Crime Center to identify the license plate of the Cherokee and located the driver, Tya L. Booker, 24, on June 21.

A witness inside the vehicle with Booker identified her as the shooter in the incident. When the witness asked Booker why she fired shots at the truck, she allegedly responded by saying, “they f—– up our traffic.”

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Booker with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action. Booker is being held without bond. She will next appear in court on July 25 for a detention hearing.

Police said Booker is already on probation after pleading guilty to a four-count felony indictment earlier this year.
