ST. CHARLES, Mo. – A woman faces a felony charge one day after she allegedly tried to lure a child away from a school bus stop in St. Charles.

The St. Charles Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Michelle Cady, 45, with one charge of attempted child kidnapping amid the investigation. Authorities served a warrant for her arrest on Tuesday, per Missouri court records.

Investigators say Cady repeatedly attempted to lure the child away from the bus stop before a witness intervened and likely helped in preventing a possible abduction. This all unfolded at an undisclosed time on Monday near an apartment complex on San Juan Drive.

According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, Cady first noticed the victim sitting in the hallway of the apartment complex and attempted to engage in a conversation, though the victim ignored her remarks and started walking toward the bus stop.

Later on, Cady reportedly attempted to lure the victim away from the bus stop by offering water and asking the victim to come with her, per court documents.

As the victim neared the intended bus stop, an adult witness, sitting in a car with her child, noticed Cady making remarks and the child shaking their head “no.” The witness reportedly intervened and told Cady to leave the child alone.

Per court documents, Cady walked over to the witness and said “you don’t tell me what the [four-letter expletive] to do.” She also pointed to the witnesses child in the car and said “you’re next,” according to court documents.

At some point, the child who Cady originally tried to engage with got onto a school bus and informed a school counselor of the incident.

St. Charles County police later spoke with Cady, who originally denied her involvement, but later changed her story and claimed to only be waving to the child and a bus driver.

A judge ordered no bond for Cady upon arrest, according to online Missouri court records.
