ST. LOUIS — When do Missourians vote in the 2024 primaries or caucuses for the U.S. president? The choice for Libertarian voters comes up in February. Republicans and Democrats vote in March.

In 2022, Missouri replaced its presidential preference primary with party caucuses, a move expected to save the state around $10 million. Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft supports this change for its cost-saving and party autonomy benefits but is concerned about voter inclusivity in caucuses.

The Republican Party will conduct in-person caucuses, while the Democratic Party will use mail-in ballots and also hold in-person events. Voter participation requires affiliation with the respective party and valid identification.

There’s ongoing debate about possibly reinstating the primary system, with previous legislative attempts to do so failing. You will need to declare a political party to vote in the caucuses. Establish or change your party preference here.
