JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – As voters in Jefferson County prepare to go to the polls for the November general election, here’s a guide for voters in the area.

No-excuse absentee voting began Oct. 22, and voters may be unfamiliar with ballot items specific to Jefferson County. You can see Jefferson County’s sample ballot here.

Many election officials recommend voters vote absentee as it may take extra time to fill out the ballot, leading to longer waiting lines on Nov. 5.

Proposition Safety

The Antonia Fire Protection District Proposition Safety measure asks county residents to approve a $11 million bond issue. The proposition will increase Antonia Fire District’s tax levy in order to cover the cost of building a new firehouse, renovating the fire district’s House 2, and purchasing up to two firetrucks within the next 20 years.

The district’s current tax levy rate is 90.33 cents per $100 of assessed value, and if approved, the levy would be increased to $1.1013 per $100 of assessed value.

As stated on the ballot:

Shall the Antonia Fire Protection District issue its general obligation bonds in the amount of eleven million dollars for the purposes of acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining, furnishing and equipping fire stations and related facilities, including the purchase of real estate where necessary, and acquiring and equipping lifesaving and firefighting vehicles, apparatus and auxiliary equipment to meet current safety standards, reduce response times and improve emergency services?

A “yes” vote would approve the Antonia’s Fire District tax levy to increase to $1.1013 per $100 assessed valuation.

A “no” vote opposes the Antonia’s Fire District’s tax levy increase to support the $11 million bond.
