WENTZVILLE, Mo. – The Wentzville School District superintendent will be receiving over $1 million over the course of nearly two months. The numbers were revealed after she announced her immediate sabbatical last week.

According to the separation agreement, Dr. Danielle Tormala will be given three separate payments between May 3 and June 30, before the official end of her term. She will receive two payments of $492,500 and one payment of $42,558.25.

Tormala joined the Wentzville School District in July 2022, serving as the 19th superintendent and the first female to fill the role. The announcement of her retirement from the district came at an emergency special board meeting April 11. The meeting was livestreamed to the public for 59 seconds before it moved into a closed session.

She stated in her letter to the Board of Education, “While this decision comes with mixed emotions, I am confident it is the right choice. This transition will allow for continued progress for the district.”

The news came six months after a petition began on Change.org asking for the dismissal of the superintendent, which received over 1,300 signatures.

“While we will miss Dr. Tormala’s leadership, we are confident in the capabilities of our administrative team to continue steering the district in a positive direction,” the statement from the district said.

Mr. Brian Bishop and Dr. Jeri LaBrot are serving as co-interim superintendents as the district searches for an interim superintendent to fulfill the role.
