ST. LOUIS – It’s election day in Missouri, and voters will decide on a number of big races.
One race expected to get voters to the polls Tuesday morning is for Congressional District 1.
The democratic primary for Congress is making national history. The leading contenders are two progressive Democrats, incumbent Congresswoman Cori Bush and her challenger, St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell.
The two have been making their final pushes to voters, as Bush versus Bell may turn out to be the most expensive congressional primary campaign in the United States.
The two are making their final arguments in person. On Monday, Bell was seen on FaceTime with voters while working the lunch crowd while Congresswoman Bush was canvassing neighborhoods in the heat.
The group AdImpact tracks campaign spending. They’re reporting this is the second most expensive congressional primary in history, at $18.2 million, behind only the New York race, in which Bush ally and fellow progressive squad member, Jamaal Bowman, lost last month.
With Missouri’s first district being heavily democratic, the winner of today’s primary is expected to have a strong chance of securing victory in November’s general election.
This is definitely a race to get people out to vote. Polls open at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning and will close at 7 p.m.
