ST. LOUIS — A fire broke out early this morning at a vacant building in the Gravois Park neighborhood of South St. Louis. Firefighters remain on the scene at the intersection of Tennessee Avenue and Miami Street.

The fire, which began around 2 a.m., has been described as “stubborn” by the fire department. The building is a vacant, two-story, four-family brick structure. Heavy flames were visible from the second floor, prompting firefighters to take a defensive approach. They are using two aerial water streams, a deck gun, and two large hand lines to battle the blaze.

This is not the first fire at this location. A neighbor reported that the property, a known spot for squatters, experienced another fire earlier this spring.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
