DELLWOOD, Mo. — A mother and a man are under arrest after a child was shot in the leg on Saturday. Court documents state that a four-year-old was shot while sitting in bed with his mother. Tawan Smith and Cornelia Brew, 23, are both charged with child endangerment and are each being held on $250,000 cash-only bonds.

The incident occurred in the 10100 block of Green Valley Drive at around 5:45 p.m. The child’s mother was lying in bed next to him when a shot was fired. The child was sitting cross-legged with the blanket around him.

A search by officers found no external damage to the home but they did discover a bullet hole in the blanket and identified that the gunshot came from inside the house. Investigators determined that the gunshot was self-inflicted.

The injuries are non-life threatening. The child was taken to the hospital for treatment.
