ST. LOUIS – The long holiday weekend ended with plenty of travelers out on the roads heading to their destinations.

“We’ve seen a lot coming back today. There are a lot of RVs out, and a lot of people traveling. So, I guess everybody is trying to get back and get ready for work tomorrow,” Tom Franklin said.

AAA said if you’re driving on Labor Day weekend, the worst time to be on the roads is afternoon to early evening; so be prepared to sit in traffic.

“Holiday weekend. I would rather be out on the lake right now than I would be driving down the interstate,” Franklin said.

TSA officials said 17 million Americans are hitting the skies through September 4.

“It was a really good time. I was with all my girlfriends over the weekend,” Gabrielle Schmidt said. “It was pretty easy, smooth sailing. Our flight got delayed an hour on Friday, but we made it.”

Schmidt traveled back to St. Louis and said she expected a busy airport. She said the Las Vegas airport was full before sunrise.

“I mean, the airport was obviously crazy over there, but we made it on time,” said Schmidt. “We left like really early. Last night we got home from going out and left straight for the airport because we were like, ‘It’s Labor Day weekend; it is going to be super busy.'”
