ST. LOUIS – Trailnet, a non-profit organization in St. Louis dedicated to enhancing public safety through advocacy for safer walking and biking, is urging residents in the St. Louis area to share their experiences with the city’s streets.
To facilitate this, Trailnet has introduced a Google form designed for users to document their encounters on St. Louis streets. The form’s purpose is stated as follows: “The purpose of this form is to encourage St. Louis region residents to tell their stories and experiences while walking, biking, driving, or taking public transit on St. Louis streets.”
All responses submitted will be treated as public information and may be included in the Trailnet 2023 crash reports. Additionally, they might be featured in Trailnet’s social media posts. However, there is an option to remain anonymous.
In its 2022 report, Trailnet revealed that 173 people died, and 14,930 were injured in car accidents in St. Louis City and County. The report highlighted that the City of St. Louis witnessed 78 traffic-related deaths in 2018, marking the second-highest number of deaths in any year on record—more than twice the number of deaths a decade ago.
Over the three years from 2020 to 2022, pedestrian deaths in St. Louis County surged by 228%, compared to the period from 2010 to 2012. The full 2022 crash report is available here.
