TOWN AND COUNTRY, Mo. – Officers with the Town and Country Police Department tell FOX 2 they are closely monitoring an apparent neo-Nazi demonstration Saturday afternoon.

MoDOT’s Gateway Guide Camera showed a group of people wearing dark clothing and displaying flags that included swastikas and other worded messages.

The group was caught on camera briefly demonstrating on a bridge for Mason Road above Interstate 64.

Lt. Dan Dubbleston of the Town and Country Police Department tells FOX 2 that officers are aware of the demonstration and monitoring it, but have not reported any safety issues around it as of Saturday afternoon.

Dubbleston says, regardless of the message, the group has a constitutional right to protest.

“We’ve had police there just monitoring the situation. We haven’t seen anything safety wise, that would cause us alarming. It’s not really stalling traffic,” said Dubbleston in a phone call with FOX 2.

He says the Town and Country Police Department has been inundated with phone calls on Saturday afternoon as police monitor the situation. He says, as of 3 p.m. Saturday, police haven’t seen any threats to public safety around the demonstration.

The Town and Country, in a news release Saturday afternoon, again acknowledged that officers were aware activity on Mason Road over I-64. “We are actively monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of pedestrians and the motoring public. If you are traveling through this area, please take extra safety precautions, and thank you for your patience.”

This is a developing story. FOX 2 will update as more information becomes available.
