Thieves use sledgehammer to rob south St. Louis convenience store

ST. LOUIS – A smash and grab occurred at a convenience store in south St. Louis Thursday morning.

The theft happened around 4:30 a.m. at Barnett’s Market at Virginia Avenue and Sidney Street in the Tower Grove East neighborhood.

The owner says someone broke open the front window with a sledgehammer and went inside while another person kept watch.

The owner said the thieves only got away with a few packs of cigarettes.
