ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Houston, Texas, man is accused of causing a crash in Ellisville that resulted in a pedestrian being seriously injured.
According to the Ellisville Police Department’s probable cause statement, the incident happened on March 31 along Manchester Road.
Police said Jose A. Coronado (age not provided) was in the passenger seat of a car driven by his girlfriend. At one point, Coronado reached over and jerked the steering wheel, causing his girlfriend to lose control of the vehicle.
The car went off the roadway and struck a pedestrian who was waiting for a Lyft.
The victim suffered three broken ribs, a broken clavicle, and a collapsed lung.
Police said Coronado admitted to grabbing the steering wheel during an argument with his girlfriend.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Coronado with second-degree assault. Coronado was issued a criminal summons last week to appear in court on August 28.
