Suspect killed, officer and K-9 hurt after apparent shootout in Alton

ALTON, Ill. – One suspect was killed, while one officer and a K-9 police dog were hurt following an apparent shootout Thursday morning in Alton, according to Illinois State Police.

The incident under investigation unfolded around 6 a.m. Thursday near the 700 block of East 6th Street.

ISP says, based on preliminary reports, officers from the Alton Police Department engaged in gunfire with a suspect. The suspect was hurt and taken to a hospital with injuries, where he was later pronounced deceased.


Missouri changes gender ID rules following incident at area gym

Investigators say one officer and one K-9, both from the Alton Police Department, were shot amid gunfire. Both are currently be treated for various injuries. The K-9 is believed to be in critical condition.

Illinois State Police says it will investigate the use of force in this incident, then turn over the investigation to the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
