ST. LOUIS – One suspect faces felony charges after a disturbance at a Soulard bar escalated to a fight and gunfire earlier this week.

Prosecutors have charged Anthony Caudillo with armed criminal action, assault, stealing, unlawful use of a weapon and property damage amid the investigation.

Investigators say the shooting happened late Wednesday night outside of Molly’s in Soulard. It started with a fight inside the bar and then spilled over outside.

New court documents obtained by FOX 2 say the owner of the bar was shot in the leg.

According to court documents, Caudillo and another suspect had a conversation with one person who then walked away for a moment and left his iPhone X on the table. When that person returned, the iPhone was gone.

Surveillance video showed the other suspect place the phone into his pocket and walk away from the table. Employees learned of this, then kicked Caudillo and the other suspect out of the bar, per court documents.

The owner of the bar responded outside and asked the suspect to return the cell phone. A fight broke out moments later with the owner reportedly attempting to detain the second suspect, though the owner was also punched in the face.

At some point, Caudillo retrieved a gun from a car and brandished it at several people in the street. Caudillo spotted the owner a short time later and fired the gun, striking the owner in the leg and also shooting the windshield of a vehicle.

Court documents say another patron was able to detain Caudillo until police arrived to arrest him. Caudillo is jailed in St. Louis without bond and has a pre-trial hearing scheduled for Friday, according to Missouri court records.
