Suspect arrested in Kingsway East apartment shooting

ST. LOUIS – A man was shot Monday after entering an apartment in the city’s Kingsway East neighborhood.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the victim was visiting someone in the Warwood apartment complex in the 1600 block of North Kingshighway Boulevard.

The victim told police that someone opened the door for him and that he was shot in the shoulder as soon as he entered.

Police reviewed surveillance video, showing Kenneth Lewis, 33, fleeing the apartment complex after the shooting.

Police said the responding officers recognized Lewis from previous interactions, and the victim was able to identify Lewis from a photo lineup.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Lewis with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. Lewis remains in custody without bond. He’s due in court on July 16 for a detention hearing.
