ST. LOUIS — Early on Thursday morning, a semi truck struck and killed a stranded driver on I-55. The crash happened at Bayless Avenue in St. Louis County at around 12:40 a.m.

The semi truck was traveling northbound on I-55 when the vehicle struck a pedestrian, identified as 45-year-old Antonio L. Green, of St. Louis. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 1:31 a.m.

The Freightliner sustained moderate damage but was driven from the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

This is the latest reminder about how dangerous the roads can be. A man changing his tire on I-44 in downtown St. Louis was struck and killed just over a week ago.

The victim had just finished working on his Chevrolet HHR when he was hit while standing outside a parked GMC Terrain. The semi-truck driver stopped a few miles down the road and is cooperating with authorities.

AAA Missouri emphasizes the dangers of fixing a flat on the interstate and recommends drivers seek a well-lit area or call for roadside assistance to prevent such tragedies.
