ST. LOUIS – Start Bar in downtown St. Louis is set to shut down after 7 years of service.

Start Bar, located at 1000 Spruce Street, is set to shut down on Oct. 14 after serving as an arcade bar that featured games, food, and drinks.

The closure was announced through a social media post linked with its sister venues, Wheelhouse and the Midwestern. The post also announced upcoming changes coming to all of the bars.

“It’s with a heavy heart that we announce Start Bar will close its doors on Monday, October 14th. After over 7 years of unforgettable memories and friendships, the time has come to say goodbye,” the post said.

The social media post also mentioned that the bar is closing because “the costs have become increasingly difficult to manage, especially as foot traffic downtown has shifted over the past few years.” The owners of the venues are set to primarily focus on Wheelhouse and the Midwestern bars after Oct. 14.

Beginning Oct. 17, the hours of Wheelhouse will be adjusted as Ladies Night, originally at Start Bar, will now be moved to Wheelhouse every Thursday night. Wheelhouse will now be open from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. On Sundays, the venue will be open from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The Midwestern will also expand its hours to include weekend brunches beginning at 10 a.m. The venue is also set to extend its hours for every Blues game and major downtown events.
