ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – A St. Charles County grand jury returned a 13-count indictment on Thursday against a St. Peters man for allegedly shooting a gun into a local bar last fall.

According to the St. Peters Police Department’s probable cause statement, the shooting happened just after 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 3, 2023, at the Classics II Bar on Mexico Road.

Police claim Michael Maniaci and a woman entered the bar just after 8:30 p.m. and stayed for approximately two hours. After consuming several alcoholic beverages, Maniaci and the woman began arguing.

A bartender asked Maniaci and the woman to leave when the argument escalated. Maniaci got angry over the request but got up to leave. The woman stayed behind to apologize, paid the bar tab, and followed Maniaci outside.

Once outside, police claim Maniaci pulled out a gun and fired a shot through the glass front facade. Six people were inside the bar at the time.

Witnesses said Maniaci was wearing a work shirt and that he kept the firearm in a “belly band holster” that he always wears. Witnesses said Maniaci fled the area in a work van.

Police later found the van parked in a nearby apartment complex along Davidson Drive, approximately one mile from the bar.

Authorities had the van towed to the police lot and obtained a search warrant for the vehicle. Police found a Sig Sauer Brand 365 XL Model 9mm pistol on the passenger floorboard, which matched a bullet casing recovered at the bar. Police also found a work shirt consistent with witness descriptions and a Praise to Heaven brand elastic belly band holster.

Maniaci was located and arrested on October 5.

The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Maniaci with six counts of first-degree attempted assault, six counts of armed criminal action, and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.
