ST. LOUIS – Chairman of the St. Louis Regional Sports Authority, Reverend Earl Nance Jr., says we need to think regionally, and look at the Dome at America’s Center like it’s our house, which is going to need around $155 million in renovations.

“It’s a necessary thing for the region; keep in mind, this is an extension of the convention center. In order to attract big conventions that come into our city, we need to have this work done in order to stay relevant and compete,” Nance Jr. said.

A report lists $155 million worth of improvements over the next 10 years, ranging from escalator and elevators to replacing sound system elements. The money to pay for these improvements is still to be determined.

The money that was directed to the dome from the state, city, and county, ended this year. Nance Jr. says those conversations need to continue city and statewide to keep the dome at the top.

“We don’t need to fall behind.  We need to keep our game top shelf so we can compete with these other cities and not lose ground because that means heavy revenue, not just for the city, but for the metropolitan area of St. Louis,” he said.
