ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones will take part in a health department program Thursday to discuss maternal and child health.
It will include representatives from the National Medical Association, a group representing African-American doctors.
The discussion comes as Missouri reports one of the worst maternal mortality rates in the country. Missouri averages more than 60 pregnancy-related deaths each year.
Doctors say nearly 85 percent of those deaths were preventable with proper care.
