ST. LOUIS – A man who shot and killed a 9-year-old boy back in March 2021 was sentenced to a 15-year prison term on Friday.

Authorities say Daryl L. Williams, 21, shot the 9-year-old on March 7, 2021, in the 900 block of Lasalle Park Court in the Lasalle Park neighborhood.

The 9-year-old, Caion Greene, his 7-month-old brother, and his parents were driving in an SUV after delivering food to the child’s grandmother when Williams approached their vehicle.

According to authorities, when Williams approached their SUV, he fired shots into it before running off. The 7-month-old and his parents were not hit, but Greene was shot and killed. Police recovered several .40-caliber shells from the scene.

Greene would have turned 13 years old this week.

While in court, the prosecutor assigned to the case required Williams to watch a slideshow of photos and videos of Greene. Williams made no comment in court on Friday.

Williams will be credited with more than three years of jail time served. Authorities say Williams also admitted to assaulting a jail guard in October 2023 with the help of another inmate.

He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder, three counts of first-degree assault and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.
