ST. LOUIS – A Highland Park, Illinois, man who was arrested in St. Louis City last week agreed to waive extradition proceedings and return home to face charges for the murders of his two brothers.
A St. Louis Circuit Court judge signed an extradition waiver Wednesday to send Jeffrey Austwick, 54, back to Lake County, Illinois.
Austwick was arrested on the morning of June 7 near the Gateway Arch.
The National Park Service contacted the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department after spotting Austwick on surveillance cameras. Police located and took Austwick into custody a short time later, near Walnut and 7th streets. Police said Austwick was armed.
Investigators in Lake County claim Austwick had been living in Highland Park with his mother, who recently died. Last week, Austwick’s older brothers, Marc and John, came to the home to discuss the property. Investigators claim Jeffrey shot them both outside the home and then set the property on fire.
The brothers were found dead outside the home in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 5.
