ST. LOUIS COUNTY — St. Louis County is preparing for tomorrow’s snowfall. With an increasing probability of snow tomorrow morning, St. Louis County has plans to treat their roads as early as midnight tonight.  Driving their routes and keeping a close eye on road conditions.

The primary two solutions St. Louis County uses to treat roadways are all dependent on just how cold temperatures are. With temperatures hovering around the freezing mark on Friday, St. Louis County says their most effective treatment is going to be the use of rock salt on the roads. If temperatures were a lot colder or if we were expecting more ice than snow, a calcium chloride mixture with that rock salt would be of use.

“Rock salt is our go-to chemical that’s used almost every winter. If we have snow coming or freezing rain, heaven forbid, rock salt is the number one tool in our toolbox. And the calcium chloride supplements the rock salt in extremely cold weather,” said David Wrone, Public Information Manager, St. Louis County.

Wrone also encourages people to park off the road in a residential area tonight. It makes salting the roads much easier than having to work around all the parked vehicles.
