ST. LOUIS – An effort to find homes is taking place Tuesday morning for people displaced from the ‘Heritage House’ apartments after a pipe burst two weeks ago.
The city of St. Louis is hosting a housing fair for the people displaced from the Heritage House apartments on Tuesday. The goal is to connect them with a more permanent living solution. They’ve been staying at the Airport Hilton since they were moved from the Ballpark Hilton downtown.
A little more than two weeks ago, pipes burst at the midtown high rise during frigid weather. flooding the building and forcing the people who live there out. They told FOX 2 that the heat was out at the building before the pipes broke.
The ‘Sansone Group’ is the Heritage House property manager. More than 200 people lived in the apartments, many of them elderly. Property managers shared that they’re working to get checks back to residents for their January rent and deposits.
Leases are also being terminated without any penalties. The community has been rallying together to help them find suitable, long-term housing solutions and now the city of St. Louis, in collaboration with a coalition of community partners, is taking action to find these displaced residents new places to live.
It’s understood that the director of human services for the city of St. Louis, as well as representatives from the ‘St. Louis Area Agency on Aging,’ the regional response team, and various housing providers, will be here Tuesday and Wednesday.
FOX 2 caught up with one of the residents who were treated to a free breakfast at the Airport Hilton on Sunday.
“We’ve been offered some different outlets to come and help us find some things, but as for me
I still have no clue where I’m going to reside after the 6,” resident Monica French Bohlen said.
The housing fair will take place here at the Hilton St. Louis on Airport from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
