ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A St. John man broke into a relative’s home last week with the intent of attacking them, police and prosecutors said.

According to the St. John Police Department’s probable cause statement, the incident took place at a home in the 3200 block of Marshall Avenue on Friday, Jan. 19.

Police claim Darrell McDonald, 18, broke into a glass door at the back of the residence and entered the home without permission. McDonald sought out a family member and punched and kicked them, pulled their hair, and struck the victim with a wooden TV tray. At one point, McDonald threatened to kill the victim.

The victim was able to call 911. When police arrived, McDonald allegedly made several statements about wanting to die and told police to kill him. Officers took McDonald into custody.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged McDonald with first-degree burglary and third-degree assault.

McDonald remains jailed on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
