ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The suspect in a standoff situation in St. Charles Monday morning is now in custody after surrendering.

The incident occurred in a parking garage near St. Charles City Hall around 10 a.m. Officials believe it all stemmed from a domestic dispute revolving a court case involving a married couple.

St. Charles Police and SWAT were on the scene where a man was in a locked car with a woman, indicating that he had a gun. The garage was evacuated out of precaution.

It took around two hours of negotiating before the suspect voluntarily surrendered.

“We felt very good about the safety of the public, so we did have that time to negotiate with them and it concluded successfully,” Lt. Daniel Gibbons from the St. Charles Police Department, said. “We’re still trying to sort out whether or not it was against her will, or if she was there voluntarily.”

There have been no reported injuries from the incident. There were delays in the courthouse as the situation unfolded.

“The person we were waiting on… wasn’t able to get his hearing, and probably anyone else that’s incarcerated waiting on their hearing wasn’t able to get their hearing as well,” Demere Harris, bystander, said.
