ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – A St. Charles man is accused of attacking an elementary school student this past spring in an act of retaliation.

According to the St. Charles County Police Department’s probable cause statement, the attack happened on the afternoon of March 4. Several days prior to the that, the victim in this case had been involved in an unrelated assault at a school.

Cortney M. Ward, a relative of one of the children who was the target of that attack, wanted to exact revenge on a particular student, police said.

Ward allegedly waited until the student in question got off the school bus and attacked the child, punching and kicking him.

Police said the incident was recorded on doorbell security footage.

The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Ward with third-degree assault and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. A warrant for Ward’s arrest was issued on August 23.
