St. Charles County man accused of stealing $6,100 worth of power tools

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A St. Charles County man is accused of stealing $6,100 worth of power tools from a Ladue business.

According to the Ladue Police Department’s probable cause statement, the theft occurred between 4 p.m. on March 7 and 5:45 a.m. on March 8, at the McCarthy Brothers building, located in the 1300 block of North Rock Hill Road.

Police said Richard W. Hosmer (age not provided) forced his way through a window of one of the buildings and took DeWalt power tool batteries and chargers worth $6,100.

According to police, a manager at the company said that Hosmer had been fired from the business in December 2023. A short time after the burglary, the manager said that he also found the same type of DeWalt batteries and chargers listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace from a profile linked to Hosmer.

Police said flock cameras in the area of the building captured Hosmer’s vehicle traveling on South McKnight Road in the direction of the McCarthy Brothers location on March 7 just before 7 p.m. and again passing the same camera at 8:07 p.m. the same day.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Hosmer with second-degree burglary and stealing – $750 or more. Hosmer was issued a criminal summons to appear in court on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
