ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Spanish Lake, Missouri, man was arrested last week for allegedly kicking a friend’s dog and attacking a family member while the two were pet-sitting.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, the crimes took place between July 28 and July 30.

Police said on July 28, Carlos Ray (age not provided) kicked his friend’s dog several times and laughed at the dog while it was in pain. Over the next three days, blood could be seen in the dog’s urine.

On July 30, police said Ray’s family member, who was also pet-sitting, suggested they tell their friend that the dog was hurt. Ray allegedly punched his family member repeatedly and even threatened to kill his relative.

Police said the family member waited until Ray went to sleep before leaving the apartment and calling police.

Officers arrived and found the family member had suffered a broken nose and orbital bone.

The dog’s status was not mentioned in the probable cause statement.

Ray was arrested on July 31.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Ray with first-degree assault, third-degree kidnapping, and animal abuse. Ray remains jailed on a $15,000 cash-only bond. He’s scheduled to appear in court for a bond reduction hearing on August 8.
