BENTON, Ill. – A Marion, Illinois, man appeared in U.S. District Court on Thursday to be sentenced on charges related to child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Missouri said Michael D. Mitchell, 36, pleaded guilty in May to two counts of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

The FBI Springfield Field Office received an online tip from an internet platform that a user had uploaded child pornography. The platform provided the IP address to investigators. Agents tracked the IP address to Mitchell’s home, where they found eight pieces of child sexual abuse material on his phone.

The judge sentenced Mitchell to 97 months in federal prison and five years of supervised release.
