ST. LOUIS – When Patrick Laffey’s little sister was diagnosed with a deadly form of brain cancer, he had an idea.

The junior gathered his teammates and his head coach on Monday to shave their heads in solidarity with six-year-old Nora Bunn, who is losing some of her hair as she undergoes cancer treatment.

Patrick was the first to get the new look, courtesy of his little sister, who helped hold the clippers.

“I like it a lot,” Patrick said. “I’m definitely ready to rock my bald head for a while.”

In March, Nora was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, which is a type of brain tumor.

Nora’s mom and dad were also on hand as makeshift barbers for the football team.

“Nora sees these older high school kids doing something for her, and it reminds her that people care,” Janie Bunn said.

Nora is currently enrolled in a clinical trial study at Stamford University, where she undergoes treatments in northern California.

Janie said this kind of support for her daughter means so much.

“It’s way more than just football,” she said. “It’s way more than football.”
