Seven STL pizza spots place in Midwest’s top 100, according to Yelp

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis area is home to some of the best pizza in the Midwest, according to Yelp.

The review-focused site recently released a collection of the 100 top-ranked pizzeria’s across the Midwest, and seven places across St. Louis, St. Louis County, and St. Charles County claimed spots.

No. 88: Dewey’s Pizza

With locations in both Missouri and Illinois, and other Midwest states, Dewey’s Pizza has been greeting customers at the Streets of St. Charles for nearly 10 years now. Guests can choose from over 15 pizza combinations or create their own. Along with this, Dewey’s offers calzones and the classic salads for everyone.

No. 81: Pizzeria Da Gloria

Pizzeria Da Gloria is located in The Hill neighborhood, which is known for its delectable Italian-inspired foods. Owner Joe Kurowski took note of the neighborhood’s cuisines, family meals, and Italian food while studying abroad to form his own kind of pizza.

The spot has been welcoming St. Louis customers since November 2020. The menu features appetizers and entrees like meatballs, caprese, and salads; an array of pizza selections; and classic desserts like chocolate tart, cheesecake, and tiramisu.

On Yelp, the space has close to 150 five-star reviews.

No. 66: Anthonio’s Taverna

Since 2003, Anthonio’s Taverna has also sat in the heart of The Hill, serving guests with Italian and Greek-inspired fares. The menu comes straight from the owner’s cultures, which put emphasis on their parents upbringing with food.

Foods are crafted from scratch in-house, and the pasta is never dried, as stated on the website. Beginning dishes include baked goat cheese, spanakopita, sautéed or fried calamari, and more. The extensive menu features over 30 salad selections as well as sandwiches, signature pastas, entrees like dolmathes and cippino, and much, much more.

No. 42: Uncle Leo’s Pizza

Uncle Leo’s Pizza is a multi-generational restaurant that serves the community of south county. The original founder, the late Alex Failoni Jr., co-owned and operated Failoni’s in Dogtown for over 30 years. He then curated the pizza based on a secret recipe from his uncle. Now, Failoni’s nephews, John and Joey Meiners, have taken over to carry on their uncle’s legacy.

Along with the selection of classic pizzas like the meat trio, margehrita, deluxe, and veggie, the menu also features a variety of meals. Guests can pair their pizza with sandwiches like the Italian or meatball sub, pastas such as carbonara, pasta con broccoli, or cannellonis.

No. 36: Press Pizza & Pasta

Press Pizza & Pasta, located in Fox Park, takes a different approach to the Italian staple food by creating a stuffed pizza and topping it with different sauces. Their combination ideas range from toasted raviolo, squash, and ozark forest mushroom to mozzarella, big mac, pepperoni, and puttanesca.

Additionally, the restaurant recently added freshly made pasta to its full-time menu with tortelloni, gnocchi, cavatelli, and more. On Yelp, the pizza and pasta spot has garnered nearly 70 five-star reviews.

No. 20: Noto

The St. Charles Italian restaurant Noto was founded on the principles of food the owners, Wayne and Kendele Noto Sieve, tasted while on several trips to Italy. Although it originally began with a food truck serving the county, after seeing demand rise for the food, the couple worked with Kendele’s father to open their own space.

The focus of the pizza is Neapolitan style, certified by the Associazione Vera Pizza Napoletana. VPN is a group established by the Italian government that recognizes restaurants that uphold the art of making Neapolitan pizza. Noto’s menu also features items like appetizers, salads, pastas, and entrees that are vegan and gluten-free.

No. 7: Pizzeoli Wood Fired Pizza

Pizzeoli is a popular pizza spot located in the historic Soulard neighborhood. Since 2014, guests have been dining in the restaurant, which has been described as cozy and relaxing. According to the website, many of the ingredients are locally sourced from nearby farmers.

Some popular dishes include arugula salad, arancini, and mayfair salad. Pizzeoli’s neighborhood-inspired pizza has gathered positive reviews, especially for the fourth city sausage & pepperoni pizza, the sub pizza, and the capocolla pizza. Along with this, guests have options of vegan and vegetarian pizza menus.
