ST. LOUIS — U.S. Senator Josh Hawley sent a letter to the judge overseeing the prosecution of a woman accused of killing as 12-year-old in a head-on collision. She was in the country illegally. He says that her $500,000 bond should not be reduced and that she is a danger to the public.
“As should be obvious, her likelihood of offending again upon release is high. The
facts surrounding Travis’s death are evidence of Ms. Bracho’s systematic contempt for the law: her defiance of immigration law, driver licensing laws, and basic traffic laws all led to this horrific incident. All of this militates against a reduction in her bond,” states Sen. Hawley in the letter.
On December 20, the collision in Hazelwood resulted in the death of 12-year-old Travis Wolfe and injuries to five others, including Travis’ parents. The crash occurred when Endrina Bracho, driving in the wrong lane at high speed, collided with the Wolfe family’s Jeep. Travis was placed on life support but tragically passed away on March 6.
Bracho now faces multiple charges, including involuntary manslaughter, assault, child endangerment, and operating a vehicle without a valid license. Court documents reveal that Bracho is in the United States illegally from Venezuela, though police state this did not impact their investigation. The collision involved Bracho traveling 1,700 feet in the wrong direction at over 70 mph in a 40 mph zone.
Currently in custody, Bracho awaits trial with a bond reduction hearing. Her two children, who were in the car during the accident, are now in their father’s care.
