STE GENEVIEVE, Mo. – A crash Monday evening involving a semi with hazardous materials on board has shut down a section of Highway C and led to a mandatory evacuation.

According to FOX 2’s partners at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the chemical is ‘phosphorus trichloride,’ which is toxic when inhaled and can irritate people’s eyes, skin, nose, and throat. The roadway is closed in the area from Sprott Road to Highway 32 until further notice.
