ST. LOUIS — As students prepare to return to class, schools in the St. Louis area are getting a hands-on lesson about handling active shooter and intruder incidents.

From the deadly Central Visual and Performing Arts shooting, to the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, violent events are highlighting the need for such training.

“We want to empower people to be able to make decisions at critical times, and when that stress is at an all-time high,” Brian Schellman with Tier One Tactical Solutions said.

Tier One Tactical Solutions trains businesses, places of worship, and school districts on the “Four Es: Educate, Evade, Escape, and Evade.”

Most of Tier One’s training sessions involve schools – training staff, students, and sometimes both.

The sessions are tailored to the audience and the school’s layout and design.

Schellman spoke with Fox 2’s Jasmine Huda about the training designed to empower both schools and individuals.
