Rolla man dies in motorcycle crash after striking deer

PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. – A Rolla man was left dead Tuesday night after colliding with a deer, ejecting him from his motorcycle near Rolla.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the accident happened a little after 10 p.m. on County Road 7340, just four miles southwest of Rolla, involving a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The crash occurred when the motorist, Steven Maccash, 49, was traveling eastbound on County Road 7340 when he struck a deer in the roadway, causing him to be ejected from his motorcycle. Maccash was pronounced dead at the scene, MSHP says.

According to MSHP, Maccash was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
