SULLIVAN, Mo. — A deputy and a police officer shot and killed a man who allegedly approached them with a knife on Interstate 44 in Sullivan. The incident happened just before 7:40 p.m. last night.
According to a joint statement from the Franklin County Sheriff and the Sullivan Police Chief, police dispatch requested help with a man walking east in the westbound lanes who appeared angry. When officers arrived, they stopped traffic to prevent the man from being hit by a car.
Despite repeated commands to drop the knife, the man continued to approach the officers aggressively. Both the officer and the deputy fired their weapons, striking the man. They provided first aid, but he later died at the hospital.
The Missouri State Division of Drug and Crime Control is handling the investigation, following standard protocol.
