MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The Maryland Heights Police Department released the names Monday of the suspect and victim involved in a shooting at a gas station that occurred Sunday evening.

Jaymes Mays admitted to shooting a man just before 6:15 p.m. at the Circle K gas station on McKelvey Drive, according to police.

Court documents stated that Mays got into a fight with the victim inside the store. The victim walked out of the store; that’s when Mays grabbed a gun from behind the counter, followed the victim, and shot him twice.

Maryland Heights Police said the victim was 37-year-old Jerome Gooden. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. Mays was arrested at the gas station, where police said he still had the gun used in the shooting.

Mays is being held without bond for first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges.
