Police: Man shoots friend in the leg after refusing to let him borrow car

ST. LOUIS – A man was shot overnight for refusing to let a friend borrow his car, police said.

The shooting happened before 1:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of Walton Avenue in the Fountain Park neighborhood.

Officers were on patrol in the Central West End when the victim flagged them down while he was en route to the hospital.

The victim, a 43-year-old man, told police he was sitting in his car with his friend when they got into an argument because the friend wanted to borrow the victim’s vehicle.

The victim said his friend, who was in the passenger seat, got angry and took his car keys and cellphone. The victim got out of the car and walked around the vehicle to confront his friend.

The suspect took out a handgun and shot the victim in the leg. The suspect threw the victim’s car keys back at him and ran off with the man’s phone.

The victim is recovering at the hospital. The suspect is described only as a 60-year-old man.
