Pevely man admits recording child sexual abuse

ST. LOUIS – A Pevely, Missouri, man appeared in federal court on Tuesday and admitted to recording his sexual abuse of a young girl.

Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said Matthew Gamel, 36, told the court that on at least four occasions he recorded the abuse. The victim was under the age of 14 at the time of each recording.

Gamel also admitted keeping the video files of his abuse as well as possessing more than 1,700 media files containing child sexual abuse that he found online.

Gamel pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of receipt of child pornography.

Gamel will be back in court on May 22 to be sentenced. As part of a plea agreement with federal prosecutors, he faces 25 years in prison.
