Pevely man accused of stealing over $5,000 worth of jewelry

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – A Pevely, Missouri, man is accused of stealing over $5,000 worth of jewelry from a home in Crystal City.

According to the Crystal City Police Department’s probable cause statement, the theft occurred sometime between the evening of January 6 and the morning of January 7 at the victim’s home.

Police said the victim allowed Robert C. Baker (age not provided) to stay with her for a period of time.

The victim told police she woke up on January 7 and discovered Baker was no longer there and that $5,460 worth of jewelry was missing.

The victim said this was not the first time Baker had stolen from her home. However, this was the first time he had items of substantial value.

Police said they questioned Baker about the theft, but he denied stealing the jewelry.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Baker with stealing – $750 or more. Baker was issued a summons to appear in court on September 9.
