ST. LOUIS – Emily Sisson, an alum of Parkway Central High School, has earned a spot in the 2024 Summer Olympics after an impressive performance at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Sisson finished second in the women’s U.S. Olympic marathon trials with a time of 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 42 seconds.
The trials took place on Saturday in Orlando, Florida. Fiona O’Keeffe, who won the event, and Dakotah Lindwurm, who finished just behind Sisson, will both also represent Team USA in Paris.
All three women beat a previous record time of 2 hours, 25 minutes and 38 seconds in the 2012 U.S. Olympic trials.
Sisson acquired a passion for running in her childhood, competing on various high school teams in Nebraska before she transferred over to Parkway Central High School. She earned two cross country state titles at Parkway Central.
Sisson then ran for Providence College, becoming a two-time NCAA champion and setting a collegiate indoor record for women in the 5000-meter race.
Sisson has regularly trained to run half marathons since her college days, also participating in the 2020 U.S. Olympic trials. She holds the record for the fastest women’s time in the Chicago Marathon, finishing the event in 2 hours, 18 minutes, and 29 seconds in 2022.
