ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – An O’Fallon, Missouri, man has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting in Ferguson late Tuesday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Tracy Panus, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis County Police Department, the shooting happened around 5:25 p.m. in the 1000 block of Renshaw Drive.

Three people—two men and a woman—were found shot inside a residence on that street. One of the men was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, Panus said.

Witnesses told detectives that Donnovan Gray, 51, went to the victims’ home to confront the female victim about a trailer Gray had parked at their residence. Police said the confrontation escalated to an argument and culminated with Gray strangling the female victim.

The male victim arrived at the home and attempted to mediate the situation. However, police said Gray took out a handgun and pointed it at the male victim’s head. The male victim took out his own gun and the two exchanged gunfire.

The male victim was shot in the abdomen several times and Gray was struck in the shoulder. Police said Gray also shot the female victim in the leg.

Police said five children were at the home at the time of the shooting and went to hide in another room. They were not injured.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Gray with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, one count of unlawful possession of a firearm, and one count of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Gray is being held without bond.

Police said Gray has a prior felony conviction.
