HAZELWOOD, Mo. – Missouri American Water has scrapped its timetable for completing repairs on a busted water main in north St. Louis County.
A 30-inch water main busted around 10:30 p.m. Monday on Dunn Road just off Interstate 270, which caused a temporary drop in water system pressure.
About 23,000 residents in parts of Berkeley, Ferguson, Hazelwood, and Florissant were affected, according to a Missouri American Water spokesperson.
The St. Louis Lambert Airport blocked off water fountains and its restaurants are handing out bottled water. In addition, hundreds of students in the Ferguson-Florissant School District had a virtual learning day due to flooding in the area.
Earlier Tuesday, a MAW spokesperson said the break was under control and expected repairs to be finished by 8 p.m. However, crews are still working to fix things. There’s no word when the repairs will be completed.
The precautionary boil advisory will remain in effect until further notice. There is a mandatory waiting period before the advisory can be lifted. There is no evidence of contamination thus far.
