BOLLINGER COUNTY, Mo. – Three days since digging and searching near an area where a 13-year-old went missing in 1989, investigators say no human remains have been found.

Investigators are searching for clues in relation to the disappearance of Gina Dawn Brooks in August 1989. Brooks was 13 years old at the time and was last seen riding her bike a few blocks from home in nearby Fredericktown, Missouri. Back then, police came up with empty answers.

According to a news release from the Bollinger County Sheriff’s Office, authorities found “items of possible evidentiary value,” over the last several days that are possibly tied to the cold case. Those items will be forwarded to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Laboratory for analysis.

The sheriff’s office confirmed a multi-day search in the county was part of the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Brooks, an update that came after investigators declined comment to FOX 2.

“This multi-day search was being conducted pursuant to a Bollinger County search warrant obtained by the Missouri State Highway Patrol,” said the sheriff’s office.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Bollinger County Sheriff’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Missouri Attorney General’s Office, and the Fredericktown Police Department have all responded to the search area this week, located in a rural area on Bollinger County Road 872.

From the air, investigators were seen focusing on multiple areas, digging with heavy machinery behind a home. Investigators were looking at areas all around the property with a tent set up as an apparent command post.

The sheriff’s office says the investigation into Brooks’ disappearance is ongoing and that no human remains have been found since Monday. Additional details are limited at this time.
