The new I-PASS stickers are now available for Illinois Tollway commuters.

The stickers became available Monday, either by purchase at an Illinois Tollway customer service center or online at getipass.com, or at Jewel-Osco and Road Ranger stores.

The stickers will replace the I-PASS transponders previously in use, although the transponders can still be used until they expire.

Here’s what I-PASS users need to know, per the Illinois Tollway website:

There is no charge for I-PASS Sticker Tags, and no deposit required for I-PASS Sticker Tags obtained at an Illinois Tollway customer service center or ordered online. A retail service fee will be required at Jewel-Osco and Road Ranger stores.

The $10 transponder deposit will be transferred into current I-PASS customers’ prepaid toll account balance once a new I-PASS Sticker Tag is registered to the account.

Sticker Tags are not transferable. One sticker tag per vehicle, permanently installed to the windshield.

No batteries, so no need to swap out, and safer for the environment.

Old transponders can be recycled at a location near you. Use the link here and search for lithium-ion batteries and your zip code.

Also, according to the Illinois Tollway website: “Once registered to your I-PASS account, the I-PASS Sticker Tag will be immediately ready to use on the Illinois Tollway and within 24 hours on the Chicago Skyway or other EZ-Pass roadways.”
